Speaking of Colour...

My "old" items might be screaming at me to be worn, but when you have brights like these in your closet, they scream a little louder to be worn... and they're hard to resist!

Adding a Pop of Colour

I'm not a big fan of wearing black.  To me it's quite boring and I try to stay away from it as much as possible.  I love colour!  I definitely couldn't resist buying these orange Ray Ban sunglasses.  I think adding them to this outfit makes it a lot more fun!

All it Takes is a Belt and a Pair of Shoes

Clearly I'm already struggling with this challenge seeing as I did not wear the Miss Sixty floral skirt last week.  Instead what did I do?  Reached for my new clothes of course! Thursday I was meeting friends for lunch and wanted to wear one of my new dresses. Fridays are "Jean Day" in my office so I reached for my new Marciano skinnies. Today I took a vacation day and have been spending the day in either my pjs or a bikini (ahh!). But, at last, I will be wearing the Miss Sixty skirt tomorrow!  I found a red top that picked up the red in the skirt (a combination I never would have thought of before) but it has sleeves and it's deathly hot out so that outfit will have to be saved for a cooler day. (Progress = already have an outfit in mind using this skirt again!)  I decided to focus on the belt and the shoes.  I found a pair of pink heels that pick up the pink in the skirt, a pair that have not been worn for a long time.  (Double points!)

Floral Skirts

So it's Wednesday and I have yet to wear my Miss Sixty floral skirt.  Well, Monday is always a rushing-around-in-the-morning kind of day.  Tuesday I wanted to wear my new blazer and today I wanted to wear my new James Perse gray sweater (both bought before the challenge!)  Also, it's freezing in our office!  I also wanted to look around for some ideas on how to make a 2005 skirt feel fresh.  I knew I would have no issues because florals are huge this season.  Sure enough, I came across a couple of amazing outfit ideas.  I love how they paired this floral skirt with a denim top.  And I love how the shoes pick up the yellow in the skirt.  Hmm now if only I owned a denim top...

Here is another gorgeous floral print skirt by MARC by Marc Jacobs.  I love how it's paired with a mustard yellow blouse, again picking up the yellow in the skirt.

Let me dig through my closet and see what I can come up with...

Wear Me Already: Miss Sixty floral print full skirt

I bought this skirt 6 years ago at Miss Sixty in L.A. on Melrose.  I remember being in heaven trying on clothes at that store.  First time in L.A., first time on Melrose, first time shopping at Miss Sixty.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  I went back to L.A. last year only to find out the store was no longer there!  But I wanted to relive the memory! Thankfully, there is a Marc by Marc Jacobs (warning: this will not be the last time you've heard this name on here) on Melrose.  Anyway, I wore this skirt quite a few times if I remember correctly, although I don't believe I've worn it for at least 3-4 years.  I think I wore it out for the first couple of summers.  It's time to put this skirt back on and reminisce about my first time on Melrose.

Introduction

I am obsessed with fashion so much that I continue to buy new clothes, yet I have a closet full of amazing items that have only been worn once or twice...or not at all!  I've realized this has to stop.  So I've decided to challenge myself.  I am no longer buying new clothes unless absolutely necessary (is it ever absolutely necessary? probably not, but let's not dwell on the small details).  I used to love putting together new outfits and mixing and matching my clothes, yet lately (maybe a lot longer than lately) I seem to be wearing the same items, which leads me to believe I need new clothes.  In the past I would try to wear a different outfit every day for weeks!  I used to take a picture every morning, proud of my mixing and matching skills.  (I really should go back and look at them for motivation.)  Randomly late at night sometimes I get a burst of energy and decide to do a fashion show with all of my clothes in front of my mirror and think "this outfit looks great!", yet I never bother to actually put them together when the time comes. I put on the same skirt/pants, together with the same top/blouse/sweater and therefore think my wardrobe is boring, which leads to more shopping. So I'm going to make a real effort to work with what I've got and realize I do not need any more clothes.  Every season, I manage to donate bags of clothing or put items up on eBay and sadly think to myself, I should have worn this more often - and now it no longer fits me!  (Or they never fit me to begin with!  No more buying shoes online and thinking they're so nice I'm going to keep them anyway. Good-bye gorgeous Christian Louboutins that maybe were worn twice because they didn't fit me properly.  I hope they're being worn more often with their new owner because man they were beautiful shoes.)  But more often than not, I come across a piece of clothing and decide to keep it because surely I will wear it again...and soon!  Definitely soon.  Then two years go by...and every time I come across it, it's screaming out to me "WEAR ME ALREADY!"  Well, I'm going to wear it already.  -M
